- Part I -
Name: Den
Race: Flutter Sprite
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Basic Appearance: Den has wavy black hair that he keeps cut right so it looks like it’s about to get into his eyes, but won’t. Though that’s more likely because of his sister’s influence, since he tends to try to hide the brilliant red of his eyes. Overall he has a fairly thin stature, though that isn’t at all strange for one of his kind, standing at about 5’5 tall. His wings tend to dominate the impression one gets of him, being huge butterfly wings that start bright red at spots, fading to maroon and then purple on the very edges, with black barring on the side facing behind him. Unlike the wings of a normal butterfly they’re incredibly flexible and not harmed by simple oils of the skin (though much of that is due to their increase in size). His skin is a fairly dark tan, and at random places he has scars which he refuses to explain.
Typical Outfit: Usually Den can be found wearing a sleeveless dark colored tunic, often a brown just barely off black. Underneath that he has what amounts to a two-pieced black leotard that stretches to his wrists, looping around his middle finger, and completely covers his feet. He generally has a red ribbon tied around each wrist, mostly because otherwise the fabric of the leotard stretches strangely as he moves his wrists, and tying it there stabilizes it. Instead of boots, he usually wears sandals, which lace up with red ribbon around his calves. Over his tunic he has a red belt with designs burnt into it that he was given by his sister.
Personality: Den is fairly introverted, burying himself in books and hiding behind his twin and his ‘sister’ whenever a true confrontation comes about. In his own mind he has quite a few different opinions and he’s extremely intelligent, but when it comes to disagreeing with someone he tends to simply crumble and try to run off as soon as possible. There are only a few things that can actually bring him out of his shell, and once he’s actually out he tends to be extremely happy and bubbly… right up until the point that something scares him and he goes back to normal again. Since many things scare him, such instances are rare and to be treasured.
Likes: Books, sequestered places,
Dislikes: Loud people, his coloring, fire

Special Skills (if applicable): Not really any, except he’s fairly crafty and good at getting out of tough situations.
General Biography: Den has never had very good luck at all. He and Aik were born to a fairly happy family in Maiorn during a fairly dry summer. Literally the day after (they were born at night) a mild forest fire cut through, killing many Flutter Sprites. In the morning Den and Aik, who had been put to safety as their father went back to try to save their mother, both of them dieing in the process, were found, Aik with mild burned and Den unharmed. It was completely by luck, but that combined with his red eyes convinced many of the sprites that he was in fact some form of devil child and to be disposed of for the safety of the clan. This was overruled for four years, during which the dry season continued. Since he tended to try to keep to himself, he was usually missing whenever forest fires took place, and an easy scapegoat for it.
When he was four, one of the men of the colony stole him in his sleep, taking him as close to the Armarbor border as he dared and leaving him there. Telling the boy that ‘home’ was in the direction of Armarbor. Before he could be eaten by anything, he was captured by slavers.
He refuses to talk about what went on while he was enslaved, but when he was twelve he was back in the same region, whereupon the group that owned him was set upon by a small albino dragon. Den simply fainted as the fires starting, waking up to the face of the dragon peering at him. All of the people were gone, as well one of the horses they had ridden; the rest were tied to random trees. Before he could freak out she introduced herself, freeing him of the chains that held him and apparently deciding to adopt him. She never told him if the humans had been eaten or simply charred to death so she could get to the horses (actually it took him around three years to realize what happened to the horses over the course of the next few months while they recuperated). She simply reassured him that the people who had him as a slave would not be returning.
After that both of them were fairly without anything certain to do. Tuyet told him bits and pieces of her own past; how she had been left for dead as a child after another monster attacked the nest while her parents were gone, nearly killing her, and how she had never been able to find them (or even figure out what clan she was a part of) and due to her extremely tiny size couldn’t be sure of being able to defend herself on her own. Because of that she had decided to come more into the ‘civilized’ lands, to see what she could find there… Or at least that was what she told Den, the verity he never could be positive of.
Shortly thereafter he went in search of his sister, Tuyet tagging along ‘because she had saved him once, so he was hers now’, managing to aim in the right direction by trial and error. When the reached the city, Tuyet stayed hidden outside while he went within. The next day, after he had been reunited with his sister, awoke with the remains of an arson. It had been non-fatal, but it was assumed that once again it was Den’s fault, and he was briefly imprisoned. The next night Tuyet and Aik freed him, Aik telling him that they wouldn’t be able to come back, ever, and both girls refusing to expand beyond that. It was pitch dark as they left, so if there was anything to see, he couldn’t.
Since then, they’ve been wandering, usually staying in the southern part of Maiorn, often going briefly into other countries.
