He watched curiously as Amarante managed to sit down on this bed - without any ill effects. "That's a good bed then?" Baqi murmured with a smirk ghosting across his features, before he answered, "...Well, I suppose now that the obligatory family visit has occured, I was just planning to head back to my home in Picse..." He wasn't looking forward to it - he'd have to ride back there on horseback, which he hated.
Baqi raised an eyebrow as the elf tugged at his hair with an ornate brush, "I need to get back to work anyway. Running short on cash after not working all this time." He gave a shrug.

Amarante gave a whimper as he hit a rather...obstinate tangle and turned to Baqi. "Where do you work?" He thought of the money that his family had given him before he left. "Is it fun?" He ripped through yet another ferocious tangle and winced.
"Oww...Oww...I hate my hair." That was it. Amarante was going to braid it tonight.

Glancing around the room, he decided to take one of the other beds, moving over to it, the floorboards creaking slightly as he stepped. Baqi sat down carefully on the mattress, just in case, and let out a sigh of relief as it seemed to be alright. His tailed curled up loosely beside him, and he ran a hand through his chestnut hair. "Oh. I just do errands, and such for people... Mostly work on boats when I can get it. I'm hoping to get my own sail boat, some day," he grinned a bit, but decided not to add that he also hoped to be a pirate someday. ...Because he thought that sounded a little stupid.
His eyebrow raised again as Amarante seemed to struggle with his hair, "...If you hate it, why don't you wear it short?" Baqi asked quietly, hoping that he wouldn't offend the little elf with his question.

"Oh! I've never seen the ocean before! It must be so pretty!" Amarante could only think of what he has read in the books in his father's library and wonder what it would be like. He turned to Baqi at his question though.
"Cut it short?" Amarante galnced at his hair. "I could but...well. As annoying as it can be...I like it like this...and I think Mama would kill me if I cut it." She always had said his hair was pretty. And that if he ever cut it she would cry.

He nodded quietly, folding his hands in his lap, and smiling a little to himself. "Yes," Baqi said, still smiling softly, "It's beautiful. ...I love the sea. Boats are my favourite things, you know. Sail boats. ...That's why I moved to Picse, you see." He let out a soft laugh, and rubbed the back of an ear for a moment, "You've probably noticed that this place isn't the best for a boat lover." Considering, well, the significant lack of oceans.
"Don't worry," he murmured, as the little elf seemed a little put off at the thought of cutting his hair short, "It does look nice how it is... I mean, it suits you. You should only cut it if you want to - it's your hair after all..." Baqi trailed off awkwardly, staring down at his hands for a moment before glancing up at Amarante again, giving him a hopeful smile.

Amarante giggled a little and blushed, smiling back at Baqi. "You really think so?" He ran a hand through his hair and was silently pleased that it encountered no knots. "Thankyou. I...It must be so exciting to sail on the ocean. I would love to do that one day."
Amarante gave another shy smile to Baqi. "Although...I imagine that with my luck, I'd probably end up with a horrible case of sea-sickness..."

Baqi gave a little nod, "Yes, I do think so." Also, he supposed, there didn't really seem to be many elves around who had short hair. Perhaps it was some sort of fashion statement amongst the race? "Elves always seem to have beautiful hair." Although he personally didn't want long hair like that. It seemed hardly practical - more effort than it seemed to be worth.
"You can buy things for sea sickness if that were the case. ...And, 'you imagine with your luck'?" Baqi raised one of his slender eyebrows inquisitively, "Do you have bad luck?"

Amarante blushed at the compliment, towards himself and his race and then smiled, with a little embarrassment. "Medically... Yes. I tend to have...rather horrible luck. Otherwise, no! I sometimes get quite good luck. That and the fact that I happen to have a small problem with depth perception and balance...for rather...err...obvious reasons."
Really, sometimes Amarante just wondered if it would smarter to just stop attempting to do things that he knew would probably hurt him. But when one walked into walls nearly as often as the sun set...well. There wasn't much of a chance there.

"Oh... Well I suppose that's not too good..." The was a silence for a few moments, as Baqi, not sure what to say, entwined and then disentangled his fingers, tail shifting lazily across the blankets. He was a little glad that they seemed soft, from what he could tell with just his tail. He bit his lip for a moment.
"Um..." He wasn't sure if this was a particularly polite thing to ask, but it couldn't hurt. And there wasn't any other way to satisfy his curiosity. "If you don't mind me asking, Amarante, what did happen to your eye? ...Were you just born with it like that, or was there an accident?" Baqi asked the question quietly, tentatively - silently hoping that he didn't offend.

Amarante looked surprised for a moment before biting his lip and then glanced up. "I...I don't really know. When I was little...only about 6 or so...I wandered off. I can't remember anything else really...but. Papa says he and my brothers found me in the fobidden area. I...was very badly hurt. Mama said later that it was a miracle I survived..." He gave a small, slightly sad smile to Baqi.
"It's...it's okay now though. It hurt a lot at first and so did my leg but now it's okay. And...well. I suppose I can at least still see...and stand...and I'm alive. So I should be happy, right? Besides...it's been a while since then." He just wished he could remember what had happened...

Baqi reached for the end of his tail, toying with it quietly - awkwardly. "Oh. I'm sorry about that... At least you're alright though." He felt a little bad for bringing up what was obviously an unpleasant memory, and thought it best to change the subject to something which would hopefully be a little more lighthearted. Preferably as soon as possible.
"So - I forgot to ask - What are you doing after tonight. Didn't you mention something about having to head off early in the morning? You just left home, correct? Are you going out on an adventure... Or to look for a job, or something of the sort?" He offered Amarante a small, friendly smile.

"I'm just exploring really. I have more than enough money to get by...so I don't really need a job. I just wanted to get out early...before it gets too busy. You wouldn't believe it but I happen to have this little problem with crowds due to a. my height and b. my limp and eye."
Amarante leant over to his pack and pulled it up onto the bed with him, put his hairbrush back and rummaged through it looking for something. "Where is it...Aha!" He pulled out a small jar of ointment and some clothes. "Umm...would you mind just turning around for a second...?"

"Oh. I suppose I can see how that could be a problem for you..." Not to mention he seemed... A little socially inept. Not that Baqi would ever say that to Amarante - poor little thing. "Maybe you should go out exploring in the country, or something? Somewhere exiting without the crowds of the city." There were plenty of places around like that, after all.
Baqi watched the elf sifting through his things for a few moments, before retrieving what he was looking for - a small jar of something and a change of clothes. He blinked slightly at the man's request, before answering, "Oh, of course, sir..." He stretched out on his mattress, rolling over on his side to stare at the opposite wall. He yawned slightly, and kicked off his boots.

"I suppose the country would be nice..." Amarante mused as he changed into his nightclothes,an oversized tunic that had belonged to his older brother once (and nearly reached his knees) and a pair of pants that went just beyond his knees. "Umm...You can turn around now if you want..." He stretched out his lame leg and started to rub the ointment onto it.
He blushed a little as he did so, not used to sharing a room with a stranger. "The...the cream is so that my leg doesn't hurt...and hopefully it gets a little better." The eye was a lost cause but his leg could always maybe get better!

He shifted his tail out of the way, before rolling onto his back, and sitting up. Baqi watched the elf for a moment, rubbing the ointment into his leg. "...Has the ointment made it any better?" He didn't bother asking about the pain - as he could see that Amarante's leg didn't seem to be hurting much.
Baqi decided that he should probably get ready for bed too. He busied himself with the task, undoing his belt, and placing it and the sheathed dagger it had been holding on the bedside table. Sliding his vest off over his shoulders he put that on the table too, still watching the elf curiously.

Amarante watched the man for a moment before realising what he was doing and blushing, he turned away."Yes...It does. I only have a very bad limp when I'm tired or sick now..." He finished putting the cream on and, screwing the lid back on, place it back into his pack, which was then replaced upon the ground.
Amarante then grabbed his hair and began to braid it, quite quickly as he had plenty of practice with it. "There. All better."

"Well that's good, I suppose, isn't it?" Baqi smiled at him a little, noticing that the elf was blushing again. He couldn't help but be quietly proud that he was at least good looking enough to make someone flustered. Having someone eyeing you off was always a good boost for your self-esteem.
He untied the bandanna that was wrapped around his head, and placed that with the rest of his things, before untucking his shirt. "...That's quite impressive how quickly you just did your hair," Baqi smiled a laughed lightly, pulling his loose linen shirt off over his head, folding it carefully. "Maybe you should become a barber."

Amarante smiled. "I suppose that's because I've had a fair bit of practice..." And turned to face Baqi again only to blush even more as he realised the other man was shirtless. He squeaked a little and turned around again.
"But I don't think a barber is quite the job for me..." Amarante had a feeling he didn't exactly have the social skills or eyesight required for the job. Therefore, no barber for him.

Baqi raised an eyebrow, "No need to be embarassed, love. It's not like you haven't seen it all before..." I'd be quite different if he was a woman, or if Amarante was - but evidently, neither of them were. "And it's only my shirt," he gave the elf a little bit of a smile, "You get all too easily flustered."
He brought his knees up too his chest, wrapping his arms around his legs, "...If you don't think you could work with hair, then what job do you think you could do? ...I mean, you said that you didn't have to work, but you know, if you wanted to? What job would you like to do?"

Amarante flushed again. "I know I am... That's the other reason for this journey. To attempt to gain social skills. I...happen to be a little...awkward. I don't think that's going too well though..." He laughed nervously and turned to Baqi.
"As for the job...well...I'd really like to write...I like writing. It's...like disappearing into another world for a while...the same as when you read." He flushed a little at what he had said but for once Amarante didn't attempt to take back his words.
